Arcade Underground — Old Sacramento Wedding

Lizy and Sam were looking for an urban environment for their wedding. Arcade Underground fit the bill for their Old Sacramento wedding in October!

Arcade Underground is, in fact, underground, but the reception space opens up to a below-street-level patio with gorgeous brick work and ivy-covered walls. We held the ceremony and dancing out on the patio, with dinner and speeches inside.

How fun are these old school cootie-catchers? The couple had some traditional, flat programs as well, but I loved their clever nod to ‘80s pop culture. Tiny boxes of tissue were another special touch, knowing how emotional many of their guests would be.

When the bride and her family are Guamanian, you serve Guamanian cuisine, including a whole roasted pig! Dinner was catered by Sons of Guam, and if you’re looking for that South Pacific flavor for your wedding, they’re a safe bet.

Alphabetical seating charts make it easy for guests to find their names, rather than hunting through the entire list. I’m a big proponent of making everything easier and faster for your guests.

Above Arcade Underground is an Airbnb apartment where Lizy and her ladies were able to get ready. It also made a great wedding night location for the couple, because all they had to go was go upstairs!

During the ceremony, which was officiated by a friend of the couple’s, a New Orleans-style jazz band went parading through the streets. We all had a good laugh about it, because that’s what happens when you get married in the city!

I only manage to get a photo with about 50% of my couples, but I’m always happy when I remember to do it. I’m such a big part of their lives for a short period of time, and I like to have a little memento of our time together.

Lizy and Sam opted not to do a first-look, so they shot all their couple photos during cocktail hour. Since their wedding was in October, it worked out that golden hour (the last hour before sunset) coincided with their photos. The went out into Old Sacramento to get some amazing shots with the Tower Bridge and Sacramento River in the background.

Even if you’re serving cupcakes or other desserts, like Lizy & Sam did, I recommend getting a small cutting cake so you can still have this cute photo op.
